Scillonian steaks 

I have mentioned before that one of my favorite school cafeteria dishes with Salisbury steak. Left my own devices one weekend I came up with a variation on that theme that turned out very tasty. For some reason. The island of Sicily popped into my head so it became Sicilian steak. I hope you liked as much as I did.

 

 

 

 

 

Ingredients:

1 lbs.. lean ground beef

1 lbs  hot Italian sausage

1  egg

1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs

2 – 15 ounce cans of organic tomato sauce

1 Tbs fresh oregano

1 tsp basil chopped 

2 Tbs garlic, minced

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional toppings – parsley, mushrooms, onions, mozzarella

Instructions:

  1. Preheat grill to  medium high. Combine ground beef, ground, hot sausage, garlic, salt, and pepper, breadcrumbs, and egg in a large mixing bowl. Once thoroughly combined. form the mixture into  Salisbury steak sized loaves.
  2. Once preheated turn 1/2 of the grill off and place loaves on the cooler part of the grill.grill and let cook for four minutes. After 3 or 4 minutes, reverse and repeat the same process doing the other side of the loaves on the other side of the grill.. The loves should be grill marked but not cooked through. Remove from all and set aside.
  3. Preheat oven to 350  degrees..
  4. spray of baking pan with olive oil and place each loaf in the pan. In a separate mixing bowl, combine tomato sauce, oregano, and basil, and then pour over the top of the bit loaves in the baking pan.
  5. bake for 15 minutes turning to Lowe’s over in the pan covering them with sauce returning to the oven for another 15 minutes, then remove and let stand for five minutes
  6. serve hot with Parsley and Parmesan cheese available and perhaps a nice risotto a pasta dish
