June 21st, 2025

“ Dobroho ranku”, or “Good Morning!” in Ukrainian, is an Eastern Slavic language spoken mainly in Ukraine.  The UJT will remain focused on Ukraine until we can all rejoice at the end of hostilities.  It has been  2,139 days since Russia invaded Ukraine.

    • This week I was very proud of our citizens. Back in the 60s, we had large demonstrations, but we usually picked one city at a time for the big ones. We march on Washington or Boston or Chicago or Denver. But we never marched everywhere all at once. I was encouraged by the turnout for “No KingsDay“ today.

This week, I learned some stuff:

    • Tomorrow would’ve been my little brother’s 71st birthday. Pat was a good man. He lived life pretty hard and he enjoyed it till he got sick and left his way too soon. I think of him often I remember his laugh the best he had a charm that would light up a room. Happy birthday, Pat!
    • It appears this workout thing might become a habit with me. I’ve been doing elliptical and machines 4 to 5 times a week for the past eight weeks or so. I’ve noticed something that my sleep is better now that I’m working out regularly. I’m getting much closer to eight hours every night. I recommended if you haven’t started your own regime.
    • There’s a sadness creeping into my life this morning as I realize we’re coming to the end of the beautiful Jacaranda season here in San Diego. Even if after they bloom, the Jacarandas give us a beautiful purple-blue carpet underneath each tree. I hope to see you next year too.
    • My son treated this to some gift cards that allowed us to eat dinner at the Texas roadhouse to celebrate our mutual birthdays. The food was excellent. I don’t think anyone had any issues with what was ordered. They don’t have any reservations so getting a table incurred of 45 minute wait and it’s very noisy but as I say, the food was excellent. Thank you, Sean.

This week’s Website Update:

    • I have two new recipes for you this week  – Chicken Street Corn Casserole. It was very good and I think even a little better when warmed up leftovers. The other was a new sort of Asian cucumber salad. My wife did not like this one, but my daughter and I did so take your chances.
    • The Home Page quote this week is from Albert Einstein: “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre mind.”.

Bonsai Tree and   Stained Glass, Update:

    • Last week, I said I was restarting my Stained Glass project… I lied. Maybe this week.

Weird-Stuff-O-Meter:

    • My younger sister suggested I watch “on Netflix this week Led Zeppelin” on Netflix this week. I was fascinated to watch the audiences for one of the best rock bands that ever were Go from covering their ears to jumping and screaming, and knowing all the words. It’s hard to believe there is every time when Led Zeppelin didn’t have a adoring public we’re watching all those films I remember seeing them live once and it just took me back to a younger more innocent time.

This week’s UJT Radio Program:

This week let’s continue with the artists under the “S” category.

  • Shane Smith & the Saints — Coast — this is one of his bands that I fell in love with the first time I heard them. There’s something compelling about the both the music and the vocals that locked me in and kept me going. These boys put out the album that this is the title cut for in 2013. I hope they play music a long time.
  • Shane Smith & the Saints — All I See is You—I just couldn’t pass up this song. It’s one of my favorites. I don’t know if you’ve ever been this much in love, but I have and it’s the best feeling in the world. Helpless to your own glorious love of another person. It just doesn’t get better than this. This one’s from 2015 on when they released ”Geronimo”.
  • Shawn Mullins  Light You Up There is something real special about John he has a way of writing songs kinda make you feel the magic in life. He released the single in 2010.
  • Shawn Phillips — Ballad of Casy Deiss — Shawn maybe one of the most underrated musicians of his generation. Multi instrumentalist, excellent vocalist and even a teacher of Beatles. This is from his Second Contributions album released in 1970.
  • Sheryl Crow — Everyday Is a Winding Road — As you all know, my daughter’s almost never wrong about anything. But she’s wrong about Sheryl. This was the first thing I ever heard by Sheryl Crow and it still strikes me today is one of the best written songs. I’ve heard in a long time. It was released as a single in 1996 and she’s been going nowhere but sense.
  • The Shins —Name for You—these folks caught my eye or ear and impress me very much. I can’t tell you exactly what it is that pulls me to their music but it’s good. This is from their 2017 release “Heartworms”.
  • Shuggie Otis — Inspiration Information — This one goes out to my friend Lou who was one of the relatively few who figured out how good Shuggie was before he left us. This song is the title song from Sugar’s third and final album. It was recorded in 1974 at his home studio over several years with Sugie playing almost all the instruments.

That’s it… Do the best you can; Laugh every chance you get; Always remember… The best is yet to come! As always, thank you for being my friend!
