General Tso’s Chicken

This dish was assured guilty pleasure or my daughter and I. I guess you could say it was my favorite fried food. So when I saw this non-fried version of it I was very excited. Of course my daughter says it’s good but “not TSO chicken”. Whatever you call it it taste great.

 

Ingredients:

General Tso’s Sauce:

~1 cup chicken bone broth 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce

1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar

~1 Tbs ginger paste

– ~1.5 Tbs minced garlic

~3 Tbs hoisin sauce

~1 t tsp red pepper flakes

-Salt, pepper & onion powder to taste

-1/4 cup light brown sugar, tightly packed

-~2 Tbs raw cane sugar

~2 Tbs cornstarch

Main dish:

~2 lbs boneless skinless chicken trim, and cut into bite-sized pieces

Avocado oil

Salt, pepper, garlic powder & onion powder to taste

~3 cups steamed broccoli (I used frozen)

Sesame seeds (garnish)

Sliced green onions (garnish)

Directions:

  1. 1. Add all pf the General Tso’s sauce ingredients to a small pot over medium-low heat and mix well. Bring it to a low boil and continue mixing until the sauce thickens ( ~3-5 minutes). Once done, set aside.3.
  2. Place the chicken into a large bowl. Drizzle in some avocado oil and season generously with salt, pepper, onion powder & garlic powder. Mix till well combined.
  3. In a large skillet going over medium-high heat spray with cooking oil and add in the chicken. Cook mixing every few minutes until the chicken is crispy and cooked all the way through (!15-20 minutes; the largest piece ~175°F internally).
  4. 5. Once the chicken is about done, lower the heat and add in the steamed broccoli along with ~3/4 of the General Tso’s sauce. Gently mix well until both chicken and broccoli are covered and coated completely.
  5. Serve hot over white rice with scallions and sesame seed garnish.
